| Group Guidance
alt.guitar.bass is an unmoderated group. However, the guidance provided here is a general rule of thumb out of resepct to its regulars, longstanding and otherwise. While not mandatory, it is appreciated if it is adhered to and will contribute to the mostly pleasant flavor of the group. |

Questions All questions are welcomed. It is recommended that you visit the FAQ prior to asking basic questions about strings, pickups, general setup, amps, recording and basses in general. The FAQ certainly will not answer all of your questions, but will start you off on the right foot as well as the links that have also been provided. You may also wish to search for similar questions that may have been previously asked on Google. If you cannot find the answer to your question, please feel free to ask for further information. There is a wealth of knowledge available from regular members of AGB, ranging from beginners to professionals and bass guitar teachers. It is fairly certain that your question will be answered promptly and accurately, or you will at least be pointed in the right direction. More FAQ and link suggestions are always welcome and can be submitted via the contact page. Comments Comments about anything bass related are also welcome. We like opinions. Brainstorms about hardware, gigging, technique, other bassists etc. do happen and can sometimes make a change from the run of the mill topics. Sarcasm is acceptable, but please use emoticons as necessary so as not to upset anyone ;-) If in doubt, lurk around for a while to get the feel of what is acceptable and what is not. Trolling and Spam Although this group is not moderated, unsociable behaviour is not acceptable. This group has many well respected regulars, some of which have been using the group for many years, others for less longer but are still highly regarded for their knowledge, wit and constructive input to the group. This is in addition to many others who drop by with the odd question or comment. To this end, a certain amount of respect is expected. Trolls do appear, crossposting to other groups, inciting long and sometimes argumentative threads. The regulars know better than to feed the trolls. However, some innocently do not know better. Regular trolls will get kill filed by most regulars on the group so as not to suffer their inane ramblings. Also, people who constantly feed the trolls will get kill filed by many regulars. Essentially, trolls are ignored, but will often be reported to thier ISP by many members of the group. Take that as a warning... Spam is also seen, i.e. "Earn unlimited income...". These posts are also ignored, although witty replies are sometimes seen. General You are encouraged to hang around and be part of a group of bassists from all over the world, including; USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Russia... Some of the regulars know each other through Bass Summits, off group conversations and buying and selling gear with each other. It is a great community, and one that you are welcome to join. Usenet access to alt.guitar.bass can be problematic for some people. Sometimes your ISP does not carry the group or there is a fee for an NNTP feed. eBassist.com is a community site providing dynamic web access to bass related forums - web based and Usenet - including alt.guitar.bass |

This website is owned and managed by myself, Lynda Lecompte. A large number of the a.g.b. regulars have been very supportive, even going as far as having a collection to finance the building of a custom bass, by way of a thank you for the efforts, which was very much appreciated. Negligable financial contributions have also been made via purchases of altguitarbass.com merchandise available on this website.
At the time of writing, this website is now in its sixth year and continues to be managed (although somewhat intermittently...) by myself. Supporters have come and gone over the years, who have made contributions to the site by way of graphic design, content, suggestions etc. This site has never asked for 'supporting member contributions' but now includes Google Adsense adverts to create revenue to contribute towards the running costs of this site. As the site owner, I strive to make the content as interesting, relevant and non-contentious as possible. To this end, it should be understood that content will not be published if it is in anyway contentious. This includes any non-bass related material that is political, religious or any other subject matter that causes debate. It should also be born in mind that this website is only very loosely connected to the Usenet forum alt.guitar.bass. The connection being that the Usenet group is the hanging place for the people that read and contribute to this website and is no basis for me to have any control over the events, topics or general behaviour in the Usenet group. I am not a moderator, decision maker or have any desire to be any of the above with regard to the Usenet group. While portions of the content on this website are driven by the regulars on a.g.b., and are encouraged to continue to do so, I do reserve the right to censor and select material for publication on this site and will not enter into debate about any decisions I make. If any past contributors wish to no longer have their content displayed on this website - textual, graphical or otherwise - please contact me as necessary. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Lynda LeCompte Updated May, 15th 2007 |
